What’s new at ForumUp
Account Activation options expanded.
For some time ForumUp has locked the Account Activation control to ‘User’. This was in conjunction with our strategy to reduce Forum spam. Now that other anti-spam measures have been introduced, ForumUp is happy to announce that the ‘Admin’ option is now available to you.
This will provide you with further flexibility in regulating member registrations to your Forum
Bulletin Board Code (BBCode).
ForumUp has introduced some additional BBCode tags, in order to make it easier for your members to post their video and sound files. The tags remove all the need to play around with complex HTML code. All you do is place the filename of your media file, between the tags. Several media hosts are supported.
Also included is a tag for centring your material on the page, and ‘wiki’ tags, that automatically create a reference link to the Wikipedia database. Further detail on using these tags will be available in our Reference section shortly.

Donate button.
You’ve put all of that hard work into doing up your Forum, and now you have to pay for Show without Ad’s out of your own pocket ! Not any more. ForumUp has provided you with an ‘optional’ Donate button. Activated from the ForumUp page of your Administration Panel, this button allows your members, or guests to fund Show without Ad’s for your Forum.
The Donate button loads a pro-forma PayPal transaction form. Your member completes the details, and the payment is transferred to ForumUp, keyed to your Forum’s account. So next time your members say ‘good job’, you can advise them to put their money where their mouth is !

Guest posting no longer available as a standard feature.
To further reduce performance degradation on the ForumUp servers, and the distribution of inappropriate material, Guests are no longer able to post on regular Forums.
ForumUp recognises that this feature does fill a need on some Forums, and so it has been retained as part of the ‘Show without Ads’ premium package. For further detail, refer to our Notices folder, or to the ForumUp page of your Administration Panel.
HTML Header and Footer fields.
Introduced as part of the Show without Ad’s package, this feature allows you to implement your own header and footer detail, of which will display on each page of your Forum. An extremely versatile and powerful feature, it may be used to add extra functionality to your Forum, or just to tweak the overall look and finish to your visual theme.
If you enjoy dabbling around your Forum with HTML, and javascript, this feature alone is worth the cost of View without Ads. Further detail is available in our Reference section.
Reduction in the price of Show without Ad’s.
ForumUp has recently provided a significant reduction of the cost for the Show without Ads premium package. Additional features including HTML Header and Footer, and Forum Backup*, are also now included.
The current cost in ‘Euro’s’ is displayed on the ForumUp page of your Administration Panel. *The Backup feature may carry an additional cost – Refer to our ForumUp Notice folder for more detail.
Social Bookmarking.
ForumUp has added the ‘optional’ feature of Social Bookmarking to your Forum. This will allow your members or guests to add your Forum to their on-line bookmark list. This has the added benefit of including your Forum in the searchable Directory of those Social Bookmarking providers.
There are currently four links available to you, all controlled from the ForumUp page of your Administration Panel. Additional detail may be obtained via links at that same page. See:

Visual Confirmation.
The Confirmation Code for new Forum members has been upgraded. This has seen a significant reduction in Spam-Bot registrations. These Spam-bots usually just register in order to distribute links to Porn and Drug sites.
Beside these registrations providing access of unsuitable material to children, they also waste a significant volume of hard-drive storage space. This in turn impacts on the performance of all ForumUp Forums.
